Long Haul Flight Essentials

For anyone that has been on a long haul flight, you know that it can get boring and uncomfortable fast. You might wake up from a nap and realize you still have 10+ hours to go. Here are my long haul flight essentials to attempt to make the flight more enjoyable.

  • Noise Canceling Headphones

Noise canceling headphones are essential to get some peace and quiet. You never know if you will end up sitting close to a crying baby or hyper toddler, but one thing is for certain and that is those pesky announcements from flight attendants and pilots. Though I never keep them in the entire flight, these Bose Headphones are perfect for a little break from all the noise.

  • Eye Mask

You don’t have control on when the flight attendants turn on and off the cabin lights. Plus, if you are unlucky, the person next to you decides to use their overhead light the entire flight. Having some sort of eye covering has been a life saver. I recently upgraded to a headphone band that I just slip over my eyes when I want to sleep. It’s duel purpose!

  • Smart Phone with Entertainment

The key here is to make sure you have your preferred source of entertainment already downloaded prior to take off. I personally like to download music and movies (in case the flight entertainment is lacking) as well as the airline app in case they provide additional entertainment from the app.

  • E-Reader

I am a die hard physical book kind of person, but finally gave in and got a kindle and now I wouldn’t travel without it. Even if you don’t consider yourself a reader. I highly recommend bringing some sort of reading material for the flight. When it is hour 11 and you have watched 3 movies, listened to some music, ate a snack and tried to sleep, and now are bored and tired of sitting, sometimes reading is a good option.

  • Battery Pack & Electronics Cables

Most planes these days have seat chargers available for your electronics but I always carry a battery pack with me just in case. I’ve been stuck on a flight where the chargers weren’t working and was glad I had a way to keep my phone charged. I love the Nimble battery packs!

  • Compression Socks

Personally, I hate the feeling of my feet swelling up during a long haul flight. Compression socks help keep your blood circulating and prevent swelling. I love my Bombas and travel with them on every long haul flight!

  • Snacks

Though long haul international flights provide meals and snacks, I always pack some snacks just in case. You might get hungry between meal services or more realistically, the meal service doesn’t really satisfy your hunger. Throw in some sweet and savory snack options to hold you over.

  • Mouth Wash

I always bring a travel sized container of mouth wash. I used to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste but this requires getting up and going to the bathroom, which is additional hassle no one needs. Mouth wash can be used from your seat, just spit it into your empty beverage cup from the drink service. This helps me feel a little refreshed before getting off the plane!
